Day 1: Lloret de Mar - Barcelona Airport - Rome Fiumicino Airport - Santiago de Chile (Route through Chile)

It is December 16, Friday, the last day of the week and the day that begins our trip to Chile and Easter Island, that trip with which we have been dreaming for months and with which we will say goodbye and welcome the new year and that we will take to make a route through Chile quite complete in the 31 days ahead.

As we said before it is Friday, so it's time to work a few hours before putting the bags in the car and going to eat at one of our favorite restaurants, the Bagua Lounge Bar & Restaurant, for later, when it's two in the afternoon, to On the way to the airport of Prat, in Barcelona, from where at 18: 20h our Alitalia flight leaves, with which we will make a stopover in Rome, of little more than an hour, and then at 10 at night, embark on a plane that in a little more than 15 hours will leave us in Santiago de Chile, which will be our entrance to this route through Chile.
When a few months ago we started preparing this trip to Chile and Easter Island, one of the first things we started looking for were flights, thinking that due to dates and destination, the price was going to take a good part of the budget of the travel. Just when we started to look, in February, we saw through Buenvuelo an offer from Barcelona to Santiago de Chile for 650 euros, with a stopover in Rome of just under two hours. Taking into account the prices we had seen with other companies and the more than two stops that some of the airlines had, this new route that Alitalia had just opened seemed the best option for this trip.

Being Friday and noon, arriving at the Prat airport does not take us more than 1 hour and a half, time that we take to review the itinerary that we will start tomorrow when we arrive in Santiago de Chile first thing in the morning and really start this route through Chile.

It's 4 in the afternoon when we leave the car parked in the Aena car park, just in front of the T1 del Prat, we take our bags and go straight to the check-in counters where after making a small queue we keep our backpacks and we go to the controls to meet, again after a few months, at the boarding gates of the T1.

Christmas at Prat Airport in Barcelona

We still have a few minutes to announce the boarding so we took the opportunity to have a coffee and punctual, at 5:45 p.m., we started boarding the flight that will take us to the Italian capital, where we were enjoying a trip a few months ago to Rome in 4 days.

The flight of just over an hour passes quietly, enjoying these moments in which we know that one of the most incredible trips of the year has just begun and that will lead us to discover a route through Chile which will show us some of the essential places in the country and will open the doors to one of the most magical places in the world: Easter Island.

We land in Rome Fiumicino when there are a few minutes to 8 in the afternoon, with the night already closed, at which point it is time to look for the traffic signaling to look for the flight information screens in which they report the flight from Rome to Santiago de Chile that we have to take in a couple of hours.

As we are not very charged and knowing that 15 hours of flight are waiting for us, we take it easy in this no man's land where you have to wait almost an hour, coffee in hand, until they announce what is our boarding gate, not only to the plane, but also to the route to Chile We are looking forward to starting as soon as possible.
This time we can not be happier and that is, although we do not travel first, if we do it in premium, so we fly in emergency seats, with what this means and more on a flight as long as this.

Boarding the flight from Rome to Santiago de Chile

Although not everything can be so beautiful, once we enter the plane that illusion disappears to the second when we see that it is a very old plane, with virtually invisible individual screens and with a rather ridiculous space between seats, besides being quite uncomfortable.
Before this and before dinner, we decided that it is best to take a pill that helps us sleep and so try to spend the best possible these hours of flight that we have left ...

And so we take off punctually when it is 10 pm, leaving the Eternal City illuminated and heading to a new destination, a destination that we had been waiting for years to know ...
